Mumbai: STAR India has announced the appointment of Sanjay Gupta as its chief operating officer.
Gupta will oversee the operations of the STAR channels with the channel heads reporting to him, a release said on Wednesday.
Speaking on the appointment, STAR India’s CEO Uday Shankar said, “The STAR footprint now extends beyond the core and non-core Hindi markets and even in difficult times such as these, the company has chosen to press on with its agenda for growth.
“This requires us to further sharpen our focus on senior management responsibility in all our businesses, and Sanjay will be a key resource for us to drive our growth further.”
Gupta will be based out of Mumbai and will report directly to Shankar.
Prior to this appointment, Gupta had worked with Bharti Airtel where he was responsible for driving marketing, sales and distribution for the $6 billion mobile business. Before this, Gupta was with Hindustan Unilever.
Gupta has more than 18 years of experience in key marketing and sales functions, the release added.
