BHEL bags first order to supply supercritical boilers

New Delhi: India’s largest power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has won first ever contract worth Rs2,500 crore for supplying 800 MW supercritical boilers.
“The company has received the contract from Andhra Pradesh Power Development Co for supply of 800 MW supercritical boilers," BHEL said in a statement.
It would set up 1,600 MW (2x800) steam generator at Krishnapatnam Power Project of Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Ltd (APPDCL).
The contract includes manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the steam generators and other auxiliaries like Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs).
The supercritical boilers would be manufactured by BHEL at its Tiruchirapalli unit, coal mills and ESPs would be supplied by the company’s Hyderabad and Ranipet plants respectively.
The company has recently formed a joint venture with Tamil Nadu State Electricity Board (TNEB) for setting up 2x800 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Project in the state. The project would be the first supercritical project in the state.
BHEL has also won a Rs200 crore order for a hydro-electric power project in Vietnam. The contract which marks company’s maiden entry into that country was awarded by state-owned Nam Chien Hydropower.
Major equipment to be supplied for the project comprises hydro turbines, generators, transformers, controls, monitoring and protection system and switchgear.
As per the contract, the company would design, engineer, manufacture, supply and supervise installation as well as commissioning of electro-mechanical equipment.
