Mumbai: Tinder Inc., that operates the online dating app, on Wednesday named Taru Kapoor to head its India operations as part of plans to expand in the country.

Based in Delhi, Kapoor will focus on establishing the Tinder brand in India. The company aims to sign up more users and increase their engagement by focusing on local user needs.

In India, the app launched additional features in December, that include users uploading information on education and professional details.

Kapoor is a Harvard MBA graduate and has previously worked with the Boston Consulting Group and Sequoia Capital India. She is experienced in business development, product and growth strategy and financial modelling and planning.

“Being part of a young brand like Tinder is both exciting and challenging. Tinder is already the market leader here without significant focussed efforts in the past and the future potential here is astounding," said Kapoor in a statement.

Globally, over 10 billion matches have been made on the app since it went live in 2012.
