Uneasy calm prevails in tense Singur

Kolkata: A day after violence erupted in Singur, the site of Tata Motor’s small car plant project, the situation there was quiet but tense on 21 May.
Additional police forces were deployed around the factory site as a precautionary measure, IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told PTI.
Police were keeping a watch on the situation as both the Trinamool Congress-backed Save Farmland Committee and the CPI(M) had decided to take out processions from Bajeberia and Joymollar areas in Singur, he said.
Kanojia said all the injured in police action as well as the SDPO, Hooghly, and a constable, who were injured in brickbatting, have been discharged after treatment.
Supporters of the Save Farmland Committee, which is fighting against acquisition of farmland for industry, fought a pitched battle with the police after a bid to storm the factory premises.
Two persons were arrested after yesterday’s violence, Kanojia said.
