New Delhi: Ruling out the possibility of constituting a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) on the Satyam scam, Corporate Affairs Minister Prem Chand Gupta said the CBI is looking into the criminal aspects of it.

Since all agencies concerned are probing the scam where is the need for constituting a JPC on it, Gupta asked reporters here.

While the CBI is probing the criminal aspects of the Satyam scam, action will be taken against the auditors involved, he said.

In a jibe at the media, Gupta said Satyam’s Ramalinga Raju was hailed as “IT man of the Year" by the media only.

Asked whether investors have lost faith after the Satyam scam, he said, “There is nothing like that." He, however, said the slump in investment is due to the worldwide economic downturn.

However, eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani, reacting to the Satyam issue, said something is wrong in the manner the investigation is being carried out.

“The progress of the investigation has been extremely slow ...," said Jethmalani.

Reiterating the demand for a JPC, Janata Dal (U) leader Sharad Yadav said the Satyam fraud is a portentous one and the government should take it seriously.

Since the current Lok Sabha duration is going to be over soon, a JPC comprising Rajya Sabha members should be constituted, Yadav said.

Supporting the demand for a JPC to investigate the matter, BJP leader SS Ahluwalia said that the government is trying to brush the issue under the carpet.

CPI leader D Raja said the need of the hour is to have a detailed discussion in the House first and then the course of action should be decided.
