New Delhi: The government has put nine Indian firms, including Essar Group and Lanco Construction, and eight foreign contractors on the “non-performing" list due to slow progress of road projects undertaken by them.
Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, K H Muniyappa, told Lok Sabha these companies were on the list due to the delayed completion of projects undertaken, poor performance in multiple contract packages and several liabilities of joint venture partners.
The Indian firms include APIL (a subsidiary of Afcons Infrastructure Ltd), Essar, Lanco, and Afcons Infrastructure among others, he said in a written reply.
Foreign contractors put on the watch list include China Coal Construction Group Corporation, Saudi Arabia’s Sticco, Moscow-based Centrodostroy and Korea’s You-One Engineering Construction Co Ltd. Four Malaysian firms — UEM Builders, Pati SDN Bhd, Dolomite Industries Co and Bhumihighway — were also in the list.
