New Delhi: Tech Mahindra Ltd, a leading solutions provider to the telecomunications industry launched a foundation in its name on 13 June to address the educational needs of underprivileged children, and to espouse the cause of women’s empowerment in education.
The foundation has an initial corpus of Rs25 crore ($6.17 million), with contributions by both, the company and its employees. A company release said the Tech Mahindra will also be contributing 2% of it post tax profit every year towards this initiative, which will have Rs6 crore to spend in the current year. This amount is expected to increase as the corpus grows.
The foundation will be creating and supporting programmes that will bring about sustainable changes aimed at the upliftment of the socially disadvantaged sections of society and will largely focus on children and women.
The foundation has also announced tie-ups with Delhi- and Maharashtra-based non-governmental organizations (NGO) such as Akanksha, Anawa, Godhuli and Voice, which will promote programmes to enable children to become self-reliant and responsible contributing citizens.
