Scooters segment register a decline of 2.1%: SIAM

New Data: According to the latest figures released by industry chamber SIAM, sales of scooters have declined from 91.759 units in June 2007 to 89,809 units in June2008.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India posted a marginal increase in domestic scooter sales at 53,375 units as against 52,800 units in the corresponding month last year.
Hero Honda Motors reported 15.5% increase in its scooter sales to 10,214 units from 8,842 units in June last. TVS Motor’s scooters sales were down by 20.7% to 19,825 units as against 25,011 units in June last year.
Three-wheeler sales in the country was down by 4.3% to 29,804 units as against 31,161 units in the same month last year, SIAM said.
Commercial vehicle sales during June increased by 13.5% to 40,324 units from 35,518 units during the year-ago period, SIAM said.
Light commercial vehicle sales during the month grew by 20% to 18,569 units, against 15,463 units in the same month last year.
Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales stood at 21,755 units as against 20,055 units in the same month last year, up 8.4%. During the month, total vehicle sales in the country stood at 8,01,605 units as against 7,51,979 units in the same month last year, up 6.59%.
