Mumbai: Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro said on Thursday it has bagged an order worth Rs311 crore from the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) for construction-related works.
The scope of the order includes designing, supplying, installation and commissioning of five substations at Qatar as a part of the Kahramaa Phase VIII, L&T informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.
“This is a major breakthrough for L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution Sector in Qatar. Kahramaa in its phase VIII for the first time invited Non-OEM EPC Contractors also to bid for the tender, enabling L&T to enter this market,” said K V Rangaswami, L&T member of the board and president (Construction).
The package consists of gas insulated switchgears, metal clad air insulated switchgears, transformers, substation control system, protection systems DC system and auxiliaries.
The contract also encompasses design and construction of substation buildings together with associated utilities such as air conditioning, fire fighting and lighting systems. All five substations are to be completed in a time frame of 27 months.
Kahramaa is the government body of Qatar for Transmission & Distribution of Electricity and has further ambitious expansion plans in the near future.
Shares of L&T were trading at Rs3,505.30, up 6.98% on BSE in afternoon trade.
