UTC Building and Industrial Systems appoints Gaurang Pandya as India president
Pandya replaces Zubin Irani, who is moving to private equity firm TPG Capital as a managing director in its Asia-Pacific operations group
New Delhi: UTC Building and Industrial Systems, maker of Carrier airconditioning systems and Otis elevators, said on Friday that it had promoted Gaurang Pandya as president of its India operations.
Pandya, who previously served as managing director for Carrier Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Ltd in India, replaces Zubin Irani, who is moving to private equity firm TPG Capital as a managing director in its Asia-Pacific operations group.
UTC Building and Industrial Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (UTC), whose products include Sikorsky helicopters and Pratt and Whitney aircraft engines.
“Gaurang brings with him a rich experience of over 15 years working within United Technologies in a broad spectrum of leadership roles across India and Asia," Ross B. Shuster, president, Asia, UTC Building and Industrial Systems, said in a statement. “Under Gaurang’s leadership, UTC Building and Industrial Systems will continue to build upon the already strong foundation that exists in our India business."
In a separate statement, TPG announced the appointment of Irani, who will relocate to Singapore from New Delhi. For the past nine years, Irani has held senior positions in UTC, most recently as country head, India and president, building and industrial systems.
“Zubin’s track record in building strong teams and driving performance will be a huge asset to TPG and our portfolio companies across the region," Ben Gray, managing partner and co-head of TPG Asia, said in the statement.
Irani said he was “excited about taking on an Asia-wide role focused on what really stimulates me—hands-on operational value-add and building strong teams to make good businesses even better."
Under Irani, UTC more than doubled its revenue in India. UTC’s then chairman and chief executive officer Louis Chenevert said in a November interview that sales last year in India were $1.2-1.3 billion, up from $500 million in 2010.
