Nagpur, 24 September Air India and Qatar Airways today began their flights from the city to Dubai and Doha respectively.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel flagged off both the flights at Dr Ambedkar International Airport here.
Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Bakar and Chairman of the National Aviation Company of India Limited V Thulasidas were also present on the occasion.
Qatar Airways will operate an Airbus A320 aircraft in a two class configuration of 12 seats in business and 132 in economy, and fly twice a week. Qatar Airways operates flights to Nagpur, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Thiruvanthapuram, Kochi and Hyderabad.
The Mumbai-Nagpur-Dubai Air India Express was also launched with much fanfare. The flight will depart from Nagpur on Wednesday, Friday and Sundays at 1:30 pm and reach Dubai at 3:40 pm. While the return flight will be at 4:30 pm and arrive in the city at 9:25 pm and will depart for Mumbai at 10:00 pm.
The Air India Express wil not only cater to the needs of travellers from Vidarbha region of Maharashtra but also from Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
Depending on the demand, flights will be increased, an airline official said.
