US firms to run Indian mobile number portability
New Delhi: The telecom ministry has selected US firms Syniverse Technologies and Telcordia Technologies to run mobile number portability services, a government spokesman said on Monday.
The world’s fastest growing wireless market plans to launch mobile number portability later this year, allowing users to retain their number even if they switch mobile operator.
Syniverse will operate a clearing house covering northern and western states, while MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions India Pvt Ltd, a joint-venture including Telcordia, will administer the services in southern and eastern states.
Syniverse said in a statement released through its India office it had been awarded a letter of intent by the government.
