Airtel, Vodafone, Idea sign 3G roaming pact: report
New Delhi: Bharti Airtel Ltd, Vodafone Essar Ltd and Idea Cellular Ltd have signed subscriber roaming agreements for their 3G services in telecom operating areas where they did not win radio spectrum in last year’s auction, the Hindu Business Line newspaper reported on Thursday.
Airtel has 3G spectrum in 13 of India’s 22 telecom circles, while Vodafone and Idea have the spectrum in nine circles, the report said.
Vodafone confirmed the arrangement to Hindu Business Line.
“Airtel has entered into a bilateral roaming agreement, both inter- and intra-circle, with Vodafone and Idea to provide 3G services to our customers in the circles where we have not built our own 3G network," an Airtel spokesperson said by email to Mint. “With this agreement in place, Airtel will bring a pan-India experience of 3G services to its customers."
