Energy | India lagging behind in adding power capacity

New Delhi: The country is lagging behind in adding electricity generation capacity, power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said. The target is to add 78,700MW of capacity in the five years to March 2012, Shinde told power ministers from the country’s states at a conference in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, power secretary H.S. Brahma said the government plans to add 14,000MW of electricity generation capacity in the fiscal 2010. A total of 5,600MW of generation capacity will be added by August, he said.

ONGC says report on gas discoveries inaccurate
New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd (ONGC) said a report in ‘The Economic Times’ newspaper about natural gas discoveries off the country’s east coast and in Gujarat is inaccurate.
The discoveries at three blocks cited by the newspaper were part of 28 reported by the company in the year ended 31 March and the size and reserve estimates given aren’t factual, ONGC said in an statement.
