Mumbai: Auto makers such as Fiat SpA and Toyota Motor Corp. are likely to unveil new cars at the day-long convention organized by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, or Siam, on 4 September in New Delhi.

Fiat may unveil Linea, its mid-size sedan for the Indian market, while Toyota might roll out Altis at the meet. Italian design house Pininfarina is expected to showcase one of its concept cars, Siam’s director Dilip Chenoy said.

About 1,000 top auto executives from India and abroad are expected to attend the convention to discuss the road ahead for the industry.

Probable international participants include Fritz Henderson, chief executive officer (CEO), General Motors Co.; Sergio Marchionne, CEO, Fiat; Rainer Schmueckle, CEO, Mercedes-Benz unit of Daimler AG; and Shen Yang, president, China’s SAIC Motor Corp. Ltd.

Osamu Suzuki, chairman of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp. is also likely to attend the meet.

“The convention would focus on challenges facing the auto industry and the role India can play in being a centre of innovation," Chenoy said.

“It’s an important occasion for us considering the importance of India for Mercedes-Benz," said Suhas Kadlaskar, head of corporate affairs at Mercedes-Benz India.

Commerce minister Kamal Nath will also speak at the conference.
