VNL rural telephony solution gets certification from USOF
New Delhi: Telecom equipment maker Vihaan Networks Ltd (VNL) on Wednesday received a certificate of successful completion from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) for its GSM cellular rural telephony solution that can help bring down the cost of providing telecom services in villages.
The VNL system, USOF said, successfully demonstrated features like low power consumption, outdoor tower and pole mountable (operating exclusively on solar energy), environment friendly and Wi-Fi broadband capabilities, among others.
“The USOF has found the solution is environment-friendly and suitable for deployment in rural and remote villages, industrial areas with low capacity requirement and isolated areas with limited or no grid power and poor infrastructure to provide both voice and data (broadband) services," VNL said in a statement.
VNL had entered into an agreement with the USOF in September 2009, and has completed the pilot project in Alwar district of Rajasthan in association with state-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.
VNL, part of the Shyam group of companies, has deployed telecom equipment in South Asia, Africa, Central and South America.
