UB achieves 30% growth in beer sales in Apr-July period
Chandigarh: Vijay Mallaya-owned United Breweries Ltd on Thursday said that it has achieved a 30% growth in beer sales in the current fiscal till July, which is 5% more than the industry growth.
“Our growth in beer sales in current fiscal till the month of July has been 30%, while the overall beer market grew by 25%," the company’s senior vice president (marketing) Samar Sheikhawat told reporters, while refusing to give details about how many beer cases it sold in the current fiscal.
In 2009-10, the total market size of beer in the country stood at 190 million cases out of which Kingfisher sold 100 million cases. Out of total market, 77% constitutes strong beer segment and rest is with mild beer, he said.
UB, claiming to have 50% market share in overall beer marker in country, posted a 22% growth in Punjab in the first quarter of current fiscal. “The beer market in Punjab grew by 14% but we had growth of 22%," he said, while adding that the total market size of beer in Punjab was 46 lakh cases.
UB is eyeing to capture 5% market of premium mild segment of beer with the launch of Kingfisher Ultra. “We are aiming at 5% market of premium mild segment with Ultra," he said.
The company has so far managed to sell 1.5 to 2 lakh cases of Kingfisher Ultra after its launch and 10% of total sales constituted beer consumption by women.
“Generally, women do not like to have drink with more alcoholic content but to our surprise, 10% of sales of Kingfisher Ultra came from ladies," he said.
