Mumbai: India’s fourth largest drug maker Piramal Healthcare Ltd on Thursday said it has acquired the injectible anaesthetics business—including brands Propofol, Bupivacaine and Atracurium Besylate—of Bharat Serums and Vaccines Ltd (BSV) for an undisclosed price.
BSV’s anaesthetics unit, which sells these products in 30 countries, had sales of around Rs10.6 crore in 2009.
Piramal’s chief financial officer Murari Rajan told ‘Mint’ the all-cash deal was funded through internal accruals, and the portfolio will complement Piramal’s hospital-based products business, as well as Minrad International Inc.’s generic inhalation anaesthetic drugs business that it acquired in 2008 for $40 million (around Rs180 crore today).
