Maruti domestic sales up 10% on Swift, Zen demand

New Delhi: Car market leader Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) on 1 June reported a 9.9% increase in domestic vehicles sales during May at 55,952 units as against 50,904 units in the same month last year.
The company exported 3,448 units as against 2,492 in the previous year, up 38.4%.
In the ‘C´ segment, which comprises of Omni and Versa, MUL sold 6,496 units in May as against 5,295 units in the year-ago period, an increase of 22.7%, the company said.
The company sold 38,889 units in the A2 segment, which comprises of Alto, Wagon-R, Zen-Estilo and Swift.
Sales of sedans Baleno, Esteem and SX4 increased by 103.8% in the month at 5,009 units. The company’s flagship model Maruti-800 saw a dip of 19.1% in sales at 5,456 units.
Maruti reported a 11.2% increase in total sales during the month of May at 59,400 units as against 53,396 units in the same month a year ago.
Maruti sold 59,400 cars, vans and sport-utility vehicles in India and overseas, compared with 53,396 a year earlier, the New Delhi-based unit of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp. said in an e-mailed statement on 1 June. It was the 15th straight gain in monthly sales for Maruti.
