New Delhi : Telecom and power equipment manufacturer Teracom said it has earmarked about Rs90 crore for expanding the capacity of its optical fibre manufacturing unit in Goa.

“The company has planned a capital expenditure (Capex) of Rs90 crore for expanding the capacity of our manufacturing unit in Goa," Teracom Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Arora told PTI.

Currently, the Goa unit manufactures 45,000-50,000 km of optical fibre cables.

“After expansion we will be able to produce about 60,000 km of the cables, which is used for carrying bandwidth for voice and data traffic, he said.

Teracom, which earns almost 50% of its revenue from its telecom equipment business, is chasing deals worth Rs1,000-1,500 crore in both power and telecom sectors. It recorded a turnover of Rs500 crore in 2007-08.

The firm, one of the major suppliers of telecom operator BSNL, said it plans to manufacture three million units of wireless access devices by the end of this year.

In power sector, it manufactures cables for NTPC, Reliance Power and Tata Power and various state electricity boards.

The company is also setting up three transmission and distribution sub stations in Uttar Pradesh.

Teracom has five rural electrification projects in the pipeline in Haryana, four with Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and one with Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and few projects in Karnataka and the North-East.

The company is also bidding for engineering procurement construction (EPC) contracts abroad, mainly in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
