New Delhi: India’s Essar Oil Ltd’s refinery in western India has restarted crude processing from Tuesday, 14 August, after bad weather had delayed a resumption after a maintenance shutdown, a senior company official said.
“It was to restart on August 9 after three weeks of shutdown, but it got delayed because of heavy rains," the official, who did not wish to be identified, told Reuters.
“Since weather conditions improved today, we have restarted the refinery," he added.
Essar had shut the refinery at Vadinar in Gujarat state for three weeks on 18 July to add new units that would raise capacity. The restart was delayed as the firm could not berth a crude tanker due to heavy rains and strong winds.
Before the shutdown, the refinery was operating at 150,000 barrels per day (BPD). It is expected to operate at full capacity of 210,000 bpd from October when the additional facilities are up and running.
Essar’s refinery is the second private refinery in India’s state-dominated oil sector. Top private company Reliance Industries Ltd runs a 660,000 bpd unit, also in western India.
