India HPCL to shut gas oil unit, output down 40%
New Delhi: India’s Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) plans to shut a hydro-diesel desulphuriser at its 150,000 barrels per day (bpd) Vizag refinery for 10 days from this weekend, and will cut its diesel output by 40%, an official said on Thursday.
“Because of the shutdown, diesel production will decline," said a company official.
Gas oil output will slide to 6,000 tonnes per day (tpd), or 45,000 bpd, from 10,000 tpd, or 75,000 bpd during the routine maintenance, the official added.
An India-based trader had earlier said that HPCL’s desulphuriser was shut down since last week and forced the refiner to scour for more gas oil. HPCL bought 145,000 tonnes of gas oil for March, more than treble February purchases of 40,000 tonnes.
