New Delhi: Effective Energy management facilitates reduction in thermal and electrical energy consumption. Inspite of India producing energy exceeding 1 lakh megawatt, which is double the production of UK and France, it still faces one of the biggest energy crisis in the world.

Energy experts from CII - L M Thapar Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs organized a two-day training programme on “Energy Saving Techniques" which could brings substantial reduction in the total cost of production.

India’s position of strength

* Present installed power generation capacity is 140,000 MW

* India ranks sixth in the world in terms of primary energy demand.

* If it perseveres with sustained economic growth, achieving 8-10% of GDP growth per annum through 2030, at a conservative estimate, our primary energy supply will have to grow by 3 - 4 times and electricity supply by 5 - 7 times of today’s consumption.

* Indian industries, especially SMEs are gearing up to meet standards set by global giants in the sphere of energy management.

Conference highlights

President, Faridabad Small Industries Association (FSIA), Mr Rajive Chawla insisted that power saved is power generated. Also where energy costs are a high component of total cost, a company’s competitiveness depends largely on one factor - How to Save Energy".

Though India is taking steps in supply side management through construction of mega power plants, equipment efficiency needs to be looked into. According to experts this can be improved at the design stage itself by correct selection, best equipment supplier, proper installation and efficient operating and maintenance."

By initiating energy saving through energy audits of plants, every single unit saved will add quantitatively to the resources of the company vis-à-vis adding largely to the country’s energy reserve for a better tomorrow.

The centre through its advisory services and energy audits conducted in 170 companies has resulted in energy savings amounting to over 110 crore.

Participants from Ranbaxy, Blue Star, Denso, JBM Auto, Markfed, NTPC, MICO, Vardhman Group and Sona Group committed themselves to energy conservation.
