MUMBAI: Leading private carrier Jet Airways has tied up with mobile operator Hutch to offer mobile ticketing to its passengers. The service will be available on GPRS-enabled mobile phones and will allow Jet Privilege members, who are the subscribers of Hutch, to book flight tickets.
The tie-up with Hutch is exclusive at present but the company may consider having similar tie-ups with other mobile operators, Jet Airways Executive Director, Saroj Datta said.
To use the technology, developed by C-Sam Inc USA founded by Sam Pitroda, Jet’s privilege members will need to download the application onto their GPRS-enabled Hutch phones. Through a unique activation code generated while downloading the application, customers will be able to book tickets on domestic flights. The payment is made through the credit card and an e-ticket is generated.
This is the latest technology internationally and Jet Airways officials said that it was difficult to estimate the initial number of passengers who would adopt it.
