Bangalore: Infosys Ltd, which was awarded a contract to maintain and develop a website for the government’s corporate affairs ministry last year, said it had fulfilled its obligations and reports of negligence in managing operations were misguided.

Infosys has a six-and-a-half year contract to manage the MCA 21 website, which was previously run by bigger rival Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS). On 17 January, Infosys officially took over the contract from TCS.

Companies seeking to access the website have faced difficulties in submitting documents and complained of slow site speeds, the corporate affairs ministry said. Earlier this week, the ministry asked TCS to help Infosys resolve these issues, according to a PTI report.

“Any reports that imply that the instability in the MCA 21 applications is on account of our negligence are misguided. We are working with the ministry to ensure that the system performs to its optimal level," Infosys said in a statement.

The MCA 21 portal was launched in 2006 and is the main platform for companies to submit documents and filings to the Registrar of Companies.

“Transitioning a large application suite like MCA 21 at the best of times is complex. We believe that we have fulfilled all our obligations as per the contract. We have been in constant touch with the ministry and provided all information relevant to the architecture and functioning of the portal. Till date Infosys has made no significant changes to the system, which continues to run in the old environment which is managed by the incumbent vendor, Tata Communications," the company said.
