Bengaluru: Harman International (India) Pvt. Ltd said it issued a legal notice to ShopClues.com, alleging sales of fakes of its popular JBL brand and asking the online marketplace to remove those products from its site.

Brands are increasingly complaining about sales of fakes and second-hand products on online marketplaces, which connect shoppers with sellers. Apparel brands such as Puma have also issued legal notices to online retailers asking them to pull fake products from sites.

Harman said on Thursday that JBL products listed on ShopClues are counterfeits and replicas of the real products. The company didn’t specify how many products it alleged were fakes. ShopClues didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

“As part of the investigation (by Harman) it was found that a sizeable number of fake JBL products were being sold on Shopclues.com via various vendors. To tackle this issue, Harman has requested the online portal to withdraw all products and remove any listings of fake JBL branded products as well as blacklist the vendors of these products. The portal has also been asked to implement certain vendor verification procedures so as to prevent this issue from recurring in the future," Harman said in a statement.

Last week, ShopClues said it raised over $100 million in a fresh funding round from Tiger Global Management and existing investors Helion Venture Partners and Nexus Venture Partners.
