Bangalore: Tesco Hindustan Service Centre (HSC), the global services arm of retail giant Tesco, has unveiled its first retail test lab in India at its centre here.
The retail test lab has been established to test and certify all the retail software and solutions that is developed at Tesco HSC for stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland (ROI), a company statement said on 14 June.
The lab will replicate the entire point-of-sale testing infrastructure that is currently available in the UK for testing and certifying all the software that goes into an estate of 1500-plus stores in the UK and ROI.
Spread over 7,000 sq.ft, it has 27 tills deployed along with a host of peripherals like scanners, card readers, and pin-pads for the five test stores that are currently deployed. The first phase will also have the Petrol Filling Stations (PFS).
Meena Ganesh, CEO, Tesco HSC, said “the lab is a big milestone in our effort to build Tesco HSC as a centre of excellence in retail technology and processes. The lab will provide a unique opportunity to our employees to understand and appreciate the environment that Tesco operates in.”
Over a period of time, Tesco HSC will be involved in the development of retail applications for which the lab will play an important role in analysing requirements and functional testing. The lab would also cater to the operating model in other countries including US stores and additional requirement for POS (Point Of Sale), she added.
