Dr Reddy’s launches drug to treat male baldness in US

Hyderabad: Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd has started selling its version of Merck and Co. Inc.’s Propecia tablets in the US that are used in the treatment of male pattern baldness.
Dr Reddy’s Finasteride 1 mg tablets have been awarded a 180-day period of marketing exclusivity in the US from 2 January, the company said in a statement to stock exchanges on Thursday.
Merck’s Propecia brand earned about $136 million in the US in the 12 months to October, according to US-based healthcare information provider IMS Health.
Shares of Dr Reddy’s were trading 2.3% higher at Rs.1,880 apiece on BSE at 11.20am, while the benchmark Sensex was up 0.2% at 19,753.04 points.
