New Delhi:Reliance Communications Ltd, India’s second-largest mobile-phone company, added one million new users in February, the company said in an e-mailed statement. Mumbai-based Reliance Communications, which operates a nation-wide network based on code division multiple access technology and also runs a smaller global system for mobile communications operation, added 772,597 users for its CDMA service in February, according to the statement. The company added a total of 1.4 million subscribers in January.
Reliance Communications last month followed its bigger rival Bharti Airtel in cutting rentals and rates on roaming services, as phone companies in India, the fastest-growing mobile market, aim to narrow the gap with China by making phone services more affordable.
“Overall, we remain bullish on the Indian mobile sector,” Suresh Mahadevan, Hong Kong-based analyst at UBS AG, said in a research note . “Taking into account the fewer days in February, the sector has maintained the subscriber momentum.”
