New Delhi: Atul Punj, chairman, Punj Lloyd Group was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year® 2007 awared in the Infrastructure and Construction category by Shiela Dixit, Delhi Chief Minister on 20 November.

The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic, growing businesses. Also present at the occasion were a large number of the country’s top industrialists, professionals and senior bureaucrats.
Punj Lloyd, is today a $2 billion EPC group, which made a humble beginning in 1989 with young Atul receiving a Rs 2 crore engineering business and liability worth Rs5 crore from out of a family settlement.
Today, 18 years later, his foresight and leadership have established the company as a serious contender in the EPC domain. He has focused on maintaining high international standards of safety and quality in accordance with norms followed by oil and gas majors.
It was under his leadership that the company which hires over 9,000 multicultural and multi skilled employees has expanded operations to over 16 countries across the Asia Pacific, Middle East, Caspian, Africa, South Asia, China and Europe.
The recent acquisition of Singapore based Sembawang and the 125-year old Simon Carves in U.K in 2006 along with joint ventures with Swissport and KAEFER as also Punj Lloyd’s recent investment in Pipavav Shipyard for offshore fabrication and Ramprastha Group for real estate development have contributed in consolidating the company’s diverse businesses.
The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® awards, instituted about two decades ago, recognize excellence in innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to businesses and communities. More than 20 finalists from over 170 nominations were shortlisted.
