Bangalore: India’s third largest software firm, Wipro Ltd, has signed a 10-year outsourcing contract with Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) for an undisclosed sum.
It has also formed a joint venture with DIAL to build and market technology for airports in India and overseas, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
“It is a significantly large contract," said Anand Sankaran, business head for India and West Asia at Wipro. He declined to specify the value of the deal.
The airport deal is the latest in a string of contracts Wipro has won in India this year.
In June, it signed a nine-year outsourcing contract with Unitech Wireless Ltd and in March, it won a Rs1,182 crore e-governance order from the Employees State Insurance Corporation of India.
“It is now a routine. This does not significantly change the company’s outlook in revenue," said Gaurav Dua, head of research at Sharekhan Ltd, a Mumbai brokerage.
Wipro and DIAL are also setting up a joint venture, Wipro Airport IT Services Ltd, to build airport-specific technology and tap into opportunities in upgrading infrastructure in airports both in India and abroad.
Wipro will own a 74% stake in the venture.
“It will be a channel for delivering both our capabilities. We can work for other airports," said Sankaran. A team of specialists from Wipro and DIAL will join the joint venture, which will bid for deals for upgrading airports run by the Airports Authority of India.
The authority is upgrading 35 non-metro airports across the country.
