New Delhi: The fertiliser subsidy bill is estimated to cross Rs50,000 crore in 2007-08 fiscal due to high carryover liability of Rs8,082 crore.

“In so far as budgetary provision for subsidy on fertilisers is concerned, the requirement of funds for 2007-08 including the carry-over liability of ,082 crore as estimated by the department is 50,284.08 crore," an official release said.

The budgetary estimate allocation for the current fiscal is fixed at Rs22,451 crore, it said, adding the shortfall in the budgetary provision has been apprised to the Ministry of Finance, which will be making additional funds available through the first and second supplementaries in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Fertiliser Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on 8 June reviewed the position regarding the availability of fertilisers in the country and the implementation of recent initiatives for its movement and distribution.

The minister observed that availability of urea, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and muriate of potash (MOP) is being planned and monitored on the basis of detailed district-wise, month-wise and company-wise supply plans.

The government has decided that subsidy would be paid to the fertiliser manufacturers/ suppliers with effect from April 2007 only on the basis of actual receipt of fertilisers in the state.

In respect of urea, fertiliser companies would be provided actual cost of transportation of fertilisers by way of primary freight up to the primary stock point and by way of secondary freight for movement beyond the primary stock point.
