Mumbai :Volkswagen’s India unit launched a new version of the Jetta in Mumbai on Wednesday. Priced at Rs14.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base version, the model is available in four variants and has a more powerful engine than its predecessor.
Along with the new Passat, the company hopes to expand sales in the premium sedan segment, which has seen flat growth in the seven months to July from the year earlier, said Neeraj Garg, member of the board and director, passenger car sales, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd.
He attributed the lack of growth to rising interest rates and the lack of new model launches. A total of 3,000 cars are sold in the premium sedan segment in India annually.
Volkswagen, which sold 32,500 units in calendar 2010, has sold more than 44,000 units so far this year, Garg said. The company also makes and sells the Polo hatchback and the Vento sedan in India.
