Energy | PowerGrid to build transmission lines
New Delhi: Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd, the nation’s biggest electricity transmission company, will build lines to connect private generators’ plants to the grid, according to new rules by the regulator.
PowerGrid will construct transmission lines linking the network with thermal plants of at least 500MW capacity and hydroelectric units of 250MW capacity, Pramod Deo, chairman of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, told reporters in New Delhi on Friday.

Indian power firms may import 40mt of coal a yr
New Delhi: Indian power companies may import 40 million tonne (mt) of coal a year by March 2012, Rakesh Nath, chairman of the Central Electricity Authority, said in New Delhi on Friday.
The utilities may buy 28.7 mt of coal in the year ending March, he said.
