PC sales in India crossed 7.3 million units in the last fiscal (2007-08), registering a steady growth rate of 16%, according to figures in the bi-annual Industry Performance Review released by the Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT), the apex body representing India’s IT hardware sector.
The growth was driven by robust notebook sales of 1.8 million units, with a growth rate of 114%. Notebooks now account for a quarter of the total PC market, up from less than 3% four years ago. MAIT estimates the PC market to touch 8.5 million in fiscal 2008-09, continuing to grow at 16% per annum.
