Mumbai: European car-maker Volkswagen on Wednesday said it will launch the new edition of Passat with BlueMotion technologies in India by March this year.
“We will launch the all new edition of Passat in the Indian market by March 2011. It will be launched at the same time as the ‘Think Blue’ campaign is introduced in the country,” Volkswagen’s India Group sales director Neeraj Garg, told reporters.
The company will introduce its ‘Think Blue’ campaign in the country at the end of the first quarter this year.
“The all new Volkswagen Passat will come to India with BlueMotion features like start stop, brake energy recuperation, DSG duel clutch gear box, gear shift indicator and an extremely fuel efficient engine,” he said.
Garg, however, did not reveal the price of the new Passat.
Volkswagen intends to adopt ‘Think Blue’ as a consistent approach that will be reflected in the brand’s actions and communication.
“Building on one of the best-known environmental labels in the automobile industry, ‘BlueMotion’, Volkswagen is sending out a new signal for sustainable mobility,” he said.
This corporate mindset is underscored by the use of blue as the predominant colour in the campaign. Volkswagen is now systematically continuing this tradition in combination with innovative elements, he said.
Garg said India is the fastest-growing market in the luxury car segment and “we will continue to grow here.”
“By 2018, the group as a whole is intending to capture 20% of the passenger car market in India,” he said.
The company also plans to increase its dealerships across the country from the present number of 70 dealers across 57 cities.
The company, currently, has seven models in the country of which Polo and Vento are driving the company’s sales.
