Maruti’s December sales rise 3%
Domestic sales rise 5.93% to 82,073 units in December; exports fall 10.99% to 13,072 units
New Delhi: The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Thursday reported a 3.24% year-on-year increase in December sales at 95,145 units.
While domestic sales rose 5.93% to 82,073 units in December, exports fell 10.99% to 13,072 units, the company said in a statement.
Total passenger car sales in the domestic market in December fell marginally to 68,729 units from 69,329 units in the same month of 2011. Sales of Maruti’s mini-segment cars, including Maruti 800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR, fell by 15.02% to 32,797 units during the month. In the compact segment (comprising Estilo, Swift and Ritz models), Maruti’s sales rose 8.86% to 22,482 units.
Sales of the DZiRE model increased by 42.3% to 13,076 units in December, but sales of the mid-sized sedan SX4 dived 60.97% to 329 units. Sales of the luxury sedan Kizashi dropped 11.76% to 45 units.
Maruti’s sales of utility vehicles—Gypsy, Ertiga and Grand Vitara—increased to 5,447 units from 238 a year ago. Sales of the Omni and Eeco models, however, dipped to 7,897 units from 7,908 units in December 2011.
