New Delhi: Hero Honda Motor Ltd, the erstwhile joint venture between Hero Group and Japan-based Honda Motor Co., will now be known as Hero MotoCorp Ltd after the company got an approval from the Registrar of Companies on Friday.
The company will unveil its new logo and brand identity designed by brand consultancy Wolff Olins on 9 August.
“Hero MotoCorp Ltd. will draw upon the rich legacy of HHML (Hero Honda Motor Ltd), which has continued to be in the coveted position of World No.1 two-wheeler manufacturer for 10 consecutive years, since 2001,” the company said in a statement.
Shareholders of Hero Honda had approved the name change in June.
London-based Wolff Olins was mandated to create Hero Honda’s new identity after India’s largest motorcycle maker split from its Japanese partner Honda Motor Co. in December. In May, the company hired Law & Kenneth to establish the new brand of the company. The independent brand communications firm was mandated to devise the new brand positioning of the company.
The Hero group, which sells the Splendor, Passion and Karizma bikes, has said it will evolve its own brand after the split with Honda and enter markets such as Latin America, Africa and West Asia with a new logo. Hero can use the Honda brand till 2014, according to an agreement between the two erstwhile partners, but the Indian group wants a new identity soon to maintain its number one position.
