London: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, who caught the imagination of the British public with her appearance on popular reality TV show ‘Big Brother´thanks to the resultant media hype that surrounded the controvesy of the inmates hitting out at her on grounds of racial discrimination succeeded in creating a lot of public goodwill for the actress.
This has led to there being a certain receptivity towards the actress that has in turn ensured that her debut musical in Britain be applauded.
The dusky beauty’s performance has been received with much critical and mass acclaim. Premiered last night at the hallowed Royal Albert Hall here with a scintillating performance in a musical aptly titled, ‘Miss Bollywood´, the full-capacity crowd at the renovated Hall cheered her through out.
Shilpa along with her 40-strong troupe star in the musical that is set against the backdrop of London as the city prepares for the 2012 Olympics.
It follows the story of ‘Maya´ - performed by Shilpa Shetty - a classically trained dancer and choreographer who recently arrived from India to set up a dance academy in a soon to be demolished East London building.
Maya soon found herself thrust into the limelight, where she must either sink or swim. Her trials and tribulations include the unwanted attentions of a famous but predatory choreographer and a jealous diva.
The musical is a concoction of riveting dance sequences, showcasing a combination of eclectic dance forms taken from the Hindi cinema with Shilpa Shetty recapturing on stage some of Bollywood’s greatest hit songs over the past four decades.
