Mumbai:
Airtel DTH informed subscribers on 1 December that the high-definition channels of ESPN Star Sports (ESS)—Star Cricket HD and ESPN HD—won’t be included in its offering from 23 December.
This is because ESS and Airtel couldn’t agree on terms, said at least three people close to the development.
“The subscriber fee per HD (high definition) channel that ESS is commanding is unrealistic for consumers as the cost gets passed on to the consumer,” said one of the persons.
An Airtel DTH spokesperson confirmed the development but didn’t give a reason for it. Dish TV India Ltd also doesn’t carry the high-definition sports channels. ESS spokesperson declined to comment.
