Hong Kong: Remaking and adapting action movies and romantic movies from Asia, especially Hong Kong are the new success mantra that Hollywood seems to be waking upto.

Producer of the “Bourne" movie trilogy plans to remake a Jackie Chan-produced action comedy about a gay man who runs a mob, in Hollywood’s latest of several adaptions of Hong Kong films.

Andrew Tennenbaum said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that his company, Flashpoint Entertainment, has bought the remake rights to “Enter The Phoenix" from Chan’s JCE Movies.

Tennenbaum and Solon So, a spokesman for Chan, both declined to say how much the deal is worth.

“Enter The Phoenix," written and directed by Stephen Fung, features Fung himself, Eason Chan, Daniel Wu, Karen Mok and Chapman To.

“I love Stephen’s movie for so many reasons, including the fact that it is a fresh new idea (flamboyantly gay man running a tough heterosexual mob gang), and has universal themes of humanity, tolerance and a great sense of humor," he said.

Tennenbaum, who produced “Bourne Identity," “Bourne Supremacy" and the coming “Bourne Ultimatum," is meeting Hollywood writers and directors interested in adapting “Enter The Phoenix."

The Flashpoint-JCE deal marks the latest of several completed or planned Hollywood remakes of Hong Kong movies.

Warner Bros. remade the Hong Kong film “Infernal Affairs" into “The Departed," which won four Oscars, including best director for Martin Scorsese.

The Hollywood studio has since bought the remake rights to another Hong Kong crime thriller, “Confession of Pain," made by the same team behind “Infernal Affairs."
