10 highlights of New York Auto Show 2015
Here are the 10 cars that created most buzz during the New York International Auto Show 2015
1. Alfa Romeo 4C Spider
First introduced at the Detroit Motor Show in January, the Alfa Romeo is yet another monster from the engineering geniuses of Modena, Italy. Essentially, the 4C Spider is a convertible version of the 4C Coupe with minor changes.
2. The Ford GT
The sports car from Ford stable, also unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show, kept visitors interested despite the excitement around the 4C Spider. The 600 horsepower car with a top speed of more than 200 miles per hour will be ready for production by 2017.
3. Accura NSX
About a hundred yards away from the GT on the show floor in New York was Accura’s new NSX supercar. The Business Insider says, “What it lacked in GT-style ferocity it more than made up for with an anime-inflected sense of daring, angular purpose."
4. 2015 Ford Focus RS
Ford powers it with an impressive EcoBoost engine, which offers better fuel efficiency without compromising on power. The third-generation Ford Focus RS will be available in major markets around the world and, for the first time, in the US.
5. Mercedes G 65 AMG
The G-Wagon has a twin-turbo V12 engine—and is the closest competitor to the Range Rover SV Autobiography (from the Land Rover stable).
6. Land Rover Range Rover SV Autobiography
The $200,000 V8 SUV is the most expensive Range Rover to date, with a 5-liter V8 engine and plush creature comforts like a built-in cooler and mohair carpeting.
7. Lincoln Continental Concept
Lincoln says this well-received design exercise shows how its cars will look in the future. In fact, Lincoln earned more than 50 patents on this car with technological improvements like electromagnetic glass and lightweight composite materials.
8. Honda Civic Concept
The new edition of the Civic will come in optional turbocharged, performance, and sportback editions—and was a surprise debut at the show this year. It has a longer hood, wider stance, and a more-aggressive front grille than its predecessor.
9. Chevrolet Malibu
This is Chevrolet’s ninth-generation Malibu. The 2016 Malibu is available with the option of three engines: standard, performance, and hybrid. Standard is an all-new 1.5-liter turbocharged ec 4-cylinder with a fuel-saving stop/start technology. The engine delivers 160-horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, which is comparable to the current model’s 2.5-liter engine.
10. BMW Alpina
The Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe is the fastest BMW car on the showroom floor, both in terms of acceleration (0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds) and in maximum speed (200 mph, electronically limited). The four-door Gran Coupe is equipped with a 4.4 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque—60 horsepower more than the previous model year.
