New Delhi: The evening sky over the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur was not cloudy, yet the star-studded Kings XI Punjab failed even to twinkle in their Indian Premier League match against the inexperienced Rajasthan Royals Monday.
Before being demolished to a six-wicket defeat, the Kings XI Punjab witnessed a willow stunt by Aussie all rounder Shane Watson, who demonstrated an unbeaten cameo knock of 76 runs in 49 balls, belting five over-boundaries and equal number of hits to the fence.
Coming in to bat when his team was tottering at 19 for 2 in the third over in chase of 167 for a victory, Watson soon transformed his role from a rescuer to a raider overpowering the steep asking rate with an affluent stroke play and quick running between the wickets.
None of the Kings XI Punjab bowlers be it Aussie speed giant Brett Lee, Piyush Chawla, S. Sreesanth, James Hopes and Wilkin Mota could withstand this fury as the Rajasthan Royals comfortably achieved the target with 11 balls to spare.
Australian Darren Lehmann (17) and Ravindra Jadeja (36) shared two crucial partnerships with Watson putting behind the memories of a nightmarish nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Delhi Daredevils in their first match.
