Film, TV to grow at 11.5% for next five years

New Delhi: During fiscal 2009, India’s growing film and television industry employed nearly 1.8 million and contributed Rs28,305 crore to the Indian economy, according to a new report prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The report, titled ‘Economic contribution of Indian film and television industry’, highlights the importance of the sector in the overall growth and vitality of the Indian economy, said the Motion Picture Association of America’s outgoing chairman Dan Glickman, who was in New Delhi to launch the report at the Asia Society Conference.
Together, the film and television industries generated a revenue of Rs35,000 crore in 2008.
With a growth rate of 11.5% over the next five years, the industry is expected to touch Rs60,000 crore.
