After pushing for the Broadcast Bill and its content code, information and broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi is convening a meeting shortly in Mumbai to discuss television ratings.
He has highlighted the fact that TAM Media Research people meters, which help measure audience size for programmes and commercials, concentrate on metros and are not present at all in areas such as Jammu and Kashmir and the North-East. The minister noted that the majority of viewers live in rural India, which is not adequately covered by TAM. Meanwhile, broadcasters are expected to meet with TAM’s team in New Delhi during the first week of September, to discuss the proposed Bill.

News channel Sahara Samay has roped in Punya Prasun Bajpai as editor-in-chief. He was earlier the executive editor of Aaj Tak. Following Bajpai is Aaj Tak anchor and deputy editor Sanjay Bragta and crime bureau chief Nazim Naqvi. They have joined Sahara Samay as executive producers.
According to people familiar with the developments, executive creative director Ashish Khazanchi of Rediffusion DY&R Pvt. Ltd may put in his papers and move to another agency. Rediffusion, has meanwhile appointed two joint national creative directors, Ramanuj Shastri, who’s just left Ambience Publicis as national creative director, and Sagar Mahabaleshwarkar, group creative director, Ogilvy & Mather India Ltd.
Advertising Standards Council India (Asci) secretary general Gualbert Pereira is leaving after a long innings with the council. Alan Colaco, also from Asci, may take his place according to people familiar with the developments.
