Pune: Revvs.net is a social networking community dedicated to motorsports fans. Initially, it will target three of the most popular racing series in the world - Formula 1, MotoGP and NASCAR before slowly expanding to other racing series.
The site has been operationalized at a time when India has put together its own Formula 1 team. With the inclusion of this Indian team in what is at best still a west-dominated sport - Formula 1 - and other forms of motor sport in the country get an impetus.
Although motor racing may not be the first-choice sport for Indians, F1’s popularity is steadily on the rise. In the past five years, the sport is watched avidly on television and is apparently only second to cricket in TV ratings.
According to industry watchers, apart from Formula 1, even MotoGP is getting popular and America’s NASCAR is gradually catching up.
Revvs.net has been started by Madhu Joshi, who himself has been following motor sport for the past 20 years. Here motorsport fans can create their profiles, connect with other fans, upload photos, create and join fanclubs, create blogs, watch and embed videos, set up discussion with other fans.
It also introduces Fantasy Pickem game for motorsports fans. This easy to play game requires participants to use their knowledge and skill to predict the correct finishing positions of racing drivers in a particular racing series. Fans earn points according to how accurately they predict the official finishing positions of the racing drivers in a particular race. The fan with the highest number of points after each race is the winner and the one with the highest points at the end of the racing season is the overall winner. The game automatically calculates scores and individual rankings.
