New Delhi: Designer Krishna Mehta on Sunday paid a special tribute to screen icons Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Devanand in her new collection on the second day of Van Heusen India Mens Week Autumn/Winter 2011.
Titled as ‘Bollywood yesteryear actors’, the collection focused on the way the actors created a style statement onscreen.
Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna’s line was a take on the urban man, using bright colors contrasted with earthy tones
With a medley of old Hindi numbers such as ‘yahoo’, ‘Gata rahe mera dil’ playing in the background, Mehta presented her high energy collection.
Abraham and Thakore’s collection at the Van Huesen India Mens Week reworked traditional Indian silhouettes in playful, easy to wear renditions
“My collection was a tribute to Shammi Kapoor. I have infused the style of three great yesteryear actors -- Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand. I have taken three quarter pants of Raj kapoor sahab, hats of Dev Anand ji and the style of Shammi ji,” said the designer.
Abhishek Gupta’s line evoked a youthful and casual feel, using lightweight jackets, t-shirts, scarves and cargo pants
Her collection saw bandhgalas, achkans and short jackets teamed up with jeans and three quarter trousers in the hues of black, white and beige.
Rajesh Pratap Singh’s collection at the Van Huesen India Mens Week aimed for the gothic look, with models walking the ramp with their faces covered, wearing figure hugging leather pants worn over boots and jackets
“My idea was to show the youngsters that they should not forget our age old traditions and they can nicely blend their past with present and can come up with a new style statement of their own,” Mehta said.
Designer Rajvi Mohan also took inspiration from yesteryear stars in her collection titled ‘Phir Bhi dil hai Hindustani’. She presented her collection with ‘yahoo’ and ‘Mera joota hai japani’ playing in the background.
