I’ve picked one ad to comment on—the one for musical greetings. A vela (idle) Zoozoo is strumming a guitar. A businesslike Zoozoo scribbles a note and slaps it on his face, marches him off to a mailbox and shoves him into it.
The very matter-of-fact pay-off appears as a super send-a-musical greeting. No clever copy. Just a bland call to action. Great.
Bad music has never sounded better. Especially when it resonates from within the postbox where the street-side strummer is locked up. A wonderful piece of sound engineering.
This script is the least contrived and most surprising of all the Zoozoo ads. It’s amazing how expressive the expressionless Zoozoos can be.
Wow! Thank you Vodafone, and thank you, Ogilvy, for this timely reminder that advertising can still be so much fun.
As told to Priyanka Mehra.
