The existing Copyright Act, 1957:
The Act came into effect in January 1958 and has been amended five times since then. The Act is the exclusive right given by law for a certain term of years to an author, composer, etc. to print, publish and sell copies of his original work. Basically it means the right to copy or reproduce the work for which the copyright exists. Copyright would translate into the exclusive right to do or authorize others to do certain acts in relation to literary, dramatic or musical works, artistic works, cinematograph film and sound recording.
