Panaji:The 38th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will be held in Goa from 23November to 3December and the organizers are considering diluting the “carnival touch” associated with the mega event.
“We are finalizing the draft of the MoU to be signed between the Goa information and publicity department and the Directorate of Film Festivals,” Nandini Paliwal, CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), the nodal agency for IFFI, told PTI.
Officials of the Goa and Central governments met in Delhi on earlier this week and worked out an arrangement that will allow a smoother functioning of the high profile event.
“This time, we are trying to have more focus on cinema. There is a suggestion from the Centre to have minimal peripheral activities, which is being considered,” Paliwal said.
The tourist state had attracted criticism from film professionals for giving a “carnival touch” to the festival by holding peripheral activities like float parades and creating an “animation street” to link the venues like the Kala Academy and Old Goa Medical College complex.
However, the final decision on trimming peripheral activities will be taken by ESG’s governng board.
